The short supply of Hard disk affected PC market little

AMD CEO Rory Read on Tuesday the company main rival Intel (the Po) point of view contest, said to a PC out of stock market hard drive effect is not very big.

About 40% of the hard drive in Thailand production, while the country's last for months of rain has led to its production business weather delays. Intel Monday will its quarterly performance expectations cut about 1 billion us dollars, says supply shortage caused a hit for the PC production.

LuoRuiDe, says that although the PC market pressure do exist, but he doesn't think that "existing in the current quarter of great pressure". LuoRuiDe says, in the early stages of the current quarter, the supply of hard drive in good conditions, thus to make market maintained "very good performance". He said: "in the first quarter of next year and in the second quarter, might see some 'clinical performance', but I don't think that supply chain problems."

LuoRuiDe also added that even if the PC industry overall production decline, AMD still have a great chance to grab market share. Intel has not comment.

In Thailand, most had flooded industrial zone now have become dry, but some parts of the water level still higher, the authorities have warned says, could take several months to let all affected by the factory working again, the company is still in a natural disaster, to assess the damage. Many science and Technology companies in Thailand have business operations, including hard disk data and component suppliers in western producers Hutchinson Technology, etc, these companies have suspended the Thailand part of the business operation activities.

LuoRuiDe said Tuesday, with its competitors than Intel, AMD must more will focus on business users and market, so as to gain market share and improve performance. He points out that AMD still need to focus on to ARM architecture with have authorized the company to cooperate, such as qualcomm, etc. He said: "we should not avoid rivals, but should focus on the user and market for."

LuoRuiDe have not ruled out for AMD get ARM architecture authorized possibility, say whether such action will be dependent on the market conditions and customer requirements. He said: "the most important thing is to always listen to the opinions of the user. Users how to say, the whole industry, is what to need to listen to opinions."

AMD is very likely to push ultrabook platform next month to challenge Intel

According to foreign media reports, AMD Australia and New Zealand director Brian Ezra tradex (Brian Slattery) Monday in accept media interviews that, AMD fastest launch next month ultra-thin this platform, the challenge of Intel Ultrabook, large may be in the international consumer electronics show (CES), launched.

In order to distinguish the Ultrabook with Intel, Ezra tradex calls them "ultrathin", and said to the ultrathin processor will soon be ready, although the company hasn't clear what use specifications of the processor, but is likely to pick up this January launch of the Fusion APU processor.

AMD the upcoming release of ultra-thin this platform is likely to be using the AMD Fusion APU concept, the Radeon HD graphics chip integrated into the processor, similar to Intel's Sandy Bridge and the upcoming release of Ivy Bridge processor.

AMD super portable notebook computers in the market and no big success, the main problem facing is more suitable for online processor itself this, not the Core i5 and Ultrabook use the i7 to compete. However, with 28 nano CPU crystal yuan the use of technology, AMD will can design and launch more competitive processor, except for the computer manufacturers to provide products other than the Intel choice.

Insufficient supply of hard drives is very likely to go on until 2013

Hard disk drive supply shortages in the wake of Thailand flooding will continue to affect consumers, computer system manufacturers and corporate IT shops into 2013, according to market research firm IDC.

There is quite a bit of confusing speculation about how long the computer industry will have to deal with the shortage of hard drives caused by the Thailand flood.

IHS, for example, believes that the situation will gradually improve beginning in Q1 2012 and could even result in excess supply as the currently added production of HDDs outside of Thailand is added to the production ramp as fabs in the country return to full production capability.

However, there are much more pessimistic analysts, such as John Rydning from IDC, which believe that the impact will be felt into 2013.

"I think the most painful period will occur now through February of next year," Rydning said in a quote published by Computerworld. "We expect the situation will improve, but it won't feel as if things are back to normal until 2013. "Rydning believes that HDD makers will eb able to meet "immediate demand" in the second half of 2012.

However, for now, the shortage is already forcing computer buyers to buy what is available and not what they want. Computerworld quotes Lenovo stating that some buyers will have to settle for off-spec HDDs in its products. Computerworld said that 750 GB, 320 GB, 250 GB and 160 GB drives are unavailable for some Thinkpad notebooks. Western Digital, which was hardest hit by the flood, recently said that it has restarted its hard drive production in one of its buildings, while all other facilities "remain under approximately two feet of water."

ISuppli predicts that worldwide PC shipments in the first quarter of 2012 will amount to 84.2 million units; it had earlier pegged the number of first-quarter shipments at 88 million units.

A poor supply of hard drive leads to an adverse effect on the revenue of intel in the fourth quarter

Intel today told investors that the global hard drive shortage caused by the Thailand flood has forced the company to reduce its fourth quarter outlook to a midpoint of $13.7 billion, down from a previous midpoint estimate of $14.7 billion.

Hundreds of people have died in flooding in Thailand that has caused billions of dollars in damages since late July and disrupted international supply chains in the PC and automobile industries.

PC makers have been scrambling to buy increasingly scarce hard drives after the flooding shut down factories in the country, which is the world's No 2 exporter of the components.
Intel's stock was down about 4.7 percent as a result of the announcement. According to the company, sales of PCs will be up sequentially for the quarter, but there are not as many sales into the supply chain as chip inventories are reduced due to the supply disruption in the hard drive industry. Intel expects hard drive shortages to persist through the first quarter and continued improvement of supply during the first half of the year.

There is no consistent opinion from analysts when hard drive supply will be catching up with demand again. IDC, for example, expects some impact to last into 2013, while IHS said that currently added emergency production volumes could lead to a hard drive oversupply by the end of 2012 once the normal production volume is available again.

Several other chip companies were dragged down by the announcement as well. AMD fell by about 4.9 percent, Nvidia by 4.0 percent, Micron by 3.3 percent, Broadcom by 3.1 percent and Texas Instruments by 2.8 percent.

Intel said its customers are reducing their stock of chips in anticipation of the hard drive shortage continuing early next year, although it said it still expects sales of PCs to be up in the fourth quarter.

The listing of Asus’s first Quadcore tablet of would go ahead as scheduled

Once a source says ASUS first four nuclear tablet computer ASUS Transformer Prime will because wi-fi problems delay delivery, but according to foreign media the latest report, ASUS official today quickly responded, said on December 19, the Tegra 3 flat panel will be so formal listed, won't delay act.

Last Friday, said sources with the four nuclear Android tablet computer asus has faced shortages, capacity under the low and so on, led directly to the NCIX dealers cancelled reservation service, and the equipment is only a few main in the hand in the media. At the moment, there is no evidence to suggest that temporarily whether there was a technical problem, it is possible that only appear in the initial supply a few goods, and a large production order and have no problem.

It is reported, earlier this year, asus Eee Pad Transformer issued a new tablet computer hardware without any problem, but the goods due to low, until June most consumers to buy than expected delivery time exactly night for two months. Although asus tablet does not have the iPad and competitive advantage, but as for the most direct competitors, such as samsung, LG and other most use Android system manufacturers part, lost seizes the market advantage.
