Dell will face a shortage of hard disk

Dell said on Friday, Thailand floods will lead to PC hard disk tight supply.

Dell in the mail sent to AFP statement said: "dell is actively look at Thailand flooding, although we expect the supply chain hard disk in the next few weeks is restricted, but we are and hard disk vendors closely, in order to ease it to the customer influence. Industry analysts say, because of Thailand for 2 months outbreak of floods, lead to many of the local hard disk factory shut, this may shock PC manufacturers, influence spread to the next year. Thailand supply 40% of the world's hard disk storage, component supplies are key.

According to industry analysts IDC Florence-Ralph di (Loren Loverde) revealed that, because the factory closed, in the worst case, next quarter shipment may reduce 20% PC. Ralph dean said: "it is the biggest manufacturer will face a shortage of hard disk, especially portable PC market, this one will have more integration."

IHS iSuppli said the, Thailand flooding will lead to this quarter shipment of 51 million drop in hard drive, to 125 million pieces. The report said: "because of hard disk was expected to be presented the shortage, prices have already started to rise, its price may continue to stay high, may be the next few season by more than 10%."
