Volkswagen gets a partner on electric-drive batteries research
Ellwangen, Germany – Volkswagen has announced it will establish a research partnership with Varta Microbattery to develop battery systems for electric-drive vehicles. The aim is to improve the efficiency of these batteries, allowing both companies a stronger market presence in electric vehicles.
Varta Microbattery said that it is confident that the partnership can achieve a lithium-ion battery cell that is technically superior and price-competitive. Research will be done at Varta Microbattery’s parent company in Ellwangen in a project that will primely span four years.
“This cooperation with Volkswagen joins the competences of both companies to maximize the synergies and economies in the research of new chemical systems based on lithium,” said Vara CEO Herbert Schein. “Varta Microbattery GmbH establishes with this research cooperation in the course to enhance this future technology in Germany.”
