Logitech is rumoured to issue a portable Cube mouse only a couple inches in length

It is learned from a report that Logitech issues a portable Cube mouse. It may just look like a fancy, oversized Lego block, but Logitech's Cube mouse is actually pretty nifty. There are plenty of small, portable mice out there but the Cube is definitely one of the smallest we've seen. On display here at CES, Logitech's Cube is only a couple inches in length and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. Unlike traditional mice, the Cube is sized to be used with a couple of fingers rather than your whole hand.

The Cube uses a discreet USB 2.4 GHz radio receiver that can communicate with up to six other compatible devices in just one USB port. One of the more appealing aspects to the Cube is its touch-sensitive interface. Tapping on the front or middle acts as your left and right clicks while sliding your finger along the cube activates its scrolling features.

The Cube is great for anybody looking for a portable, wireless mouse, but we would definitely suggest trying it out before purchasing. Its small size can take some getting used to, and for people who prefer the ergonomics of a traditional mouse, it may be a good idea just to skip this one. Logitech's Cube won't be on sale until later this month for $70, but anyone eager enough to make the jump can preorder theirs from Logitech here.

The Cube is a mouse that's super easy to write off. It looks like Logitech started at square one and stopped there: it's just a box, nothing doing. If you're in the market for a travel mouse, however, you'd be doing yourself a disservice, as the Cube makes a lot of sense once you see it.

This thing is small. Press photos don't give you an appropriate sense of scale, and it's a key part of the Cube's allure up front.
Rather than manipulate it with a hand as you would a full-sized mouse, you really only use your fingers with the Cube. Pressing down on the front of it (and yes, it does have one) counts as a click, press the middle and that's your right click, and you slide your finger along its top to scroll. It uses Logitech's Unifying receiver, a 2.4 GHz radio receiver that can manage the Cube and up to six other compatible devices off one USB port.

It's simple, small and light, and all of a sudden the idea of making it into a little box is rather genius, as it's such a convenient shape that flies in the face of ergonomics, but works so well at your fingertips as that's the point — it doesn't care that you have a whole hand.
The Cube drops later this month for $70. The one thing that's still up in the air is how long the Cube lasts on a charge (charged up via mini USB), as Logitech hasn't made that detail public.
