this item was just what was needed. The laptop battery was dead and appeared not to hold a charge. I ordered an adapter previously that would only feed power to the laptop when plugged into an outlet. Each time the laptop was unplugged (i.e., to be moved to another room) we would get a startup error that the laptop was not shut down correctly. It works well, is very small and light weight and does a good job. My only complaint is that the power cord (the side that plugs into the wall) is somewhat shorter than I'd have liked. It's not rediculously short, but an extra foot would have been about right.
